Watch Lake-North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department (WJNGJVFD) chief Guy Poliseno congratulates Vito Burtini, Jim Klenk, Joanne Macaluso, Gisele Poliseno, Brian Thatcher, Candace Tyler and George Tyler who completed and graduated the Basic Fire Fighting Course.

Put on by the Justice Institute of British Columbia, they all received their certificates last month.

On May 15 and June 26, Dale Heggtveit, J. Macaluso, Wolfgang Pessler, G. Poliseno, Bob Smith, C. Tyler, G. Tyler and Bob White completed the Fire Attack Rural (Rookie) course at the 100 Mile House Emergency Services Training Centre:.

The chief would like to remind everyone who uses wood for heating to use dry, seasoned wood. This will eliminate the build up of creosote in the lining of the chimney and reduce the risk of chimney fires.

Remember to replace the battery in your smoke detector if you have not done so. Take time to make sure the openings on the smoke detector are not plugged with dust, cobwebs or paint.

This will help the electronic components to sound the alarm if there is smoke.
